Tracking your site visitors using Google Analytics

If you have your own website and want to know everything there is to know about your site's visitors then Google Analytics is for you.

They give you advanced reports of incoming traffic: Where they're from, Who they are, How long they spent on your site etc. All supplied to you through an easy-to-use online interface complete with maps, charts, adwords, ecommerce goals and on and on.

Most webhosts will either offer or try to sell you a web tracking package for $6-$30/month. So going with google this time (free), will save you a lot of money and give the most accurate and detailed reports around.

You can visit their website at http://analytics.google.com and read all about it there.

Setup is pretty simple, either add a metatag to your template, or upload a specially named blank HTML file to the root of your sites directory. Also, if using Drupal, or any other CMS like Wordpress or Joomla -then there is usually some sort of module released under GPL / Open source that will make it easier to install analytics.

Whenever Rockdiamond has been hired to build a site for anyone, Analytics is always included and monthly reports are mailed to the site owner.
