Encoding and uploading DVD's to Youtube

Calculating length of time and cost to process:

1 DVD, 1 hour in length broken into 6 clips (youtube maxlength of 10min)
(6 * 40min/clip to encode and compress from dvd, and save to hard drive) =240min
(6 * 25min to upload each clip )= 150min
240 + 150 = 390min / 60min/hr = 6.5 hours per DVD

Other things like loading discs, waiting for the site to load and managing large files haven't been included but could add up to 15min/disc
Video Encoder: H.264
Audio Encoder: AAC 160kps Stereo
Software: Handbrake, Firefox

So even at $10.00/hour -10 discs work out to be $650.00 without integration to the website, or having written titles, descriptions and tags. Most web designers charge at least $20/hour so it's easy to see that a large budget would be needed to build a video intensive website.

I'm just illustrating a point of interest and that these numbers should be noted when talking to web "designers" and considering quotes. They don't all have experience with this and may quickly jump to conclusions -especially if given the opportunity to butter up a new client.

The best strategy seems to be to encode while sleeping and upload during working hours.
Since encoding ammounts to 4 hours per 1 hour movie and uploading only 2.5 hours.

Also could do it clip by clip -simultaneously at 40min each, with 10min to fit in the misc stuff.
This could reduce the time to work one disc down to just 4 hours. That would be $80 per disc to a web developer.
